Privacy Policy
Qalam is a reading app: a catalog of Islamic books and a settings tab. This page sets out what the app sends, who processes it, and what stays on your device alone.
It is made by the developer of the Uhud app.
In short
No account
No sign-up, no login, no password.
No location
The app has no location permission at all.
No ads
No ad networks, no advertising identifier, no tracking.
Your reading stays put
Books and your reading position are never sent anywhere.
There is no account
Qalam has no sign-up, no login and no password. The app never asks for your name, your email address, your phone number or your date of birth — not on first launch, not later.
Two random identifiers
On first run the app generates two random UUIDs and stores them on the device. They are not derived from any hardware identifier, they are not the advertising identifier, and on their own they identify nobody. Clear the app's data or reinstall the app, and entirely new ones take their place.
They exist for two things: counting installs, and deciding which devices a feature flag is switched on for.
What is sent to our server
Once, when the app starts, the following goes to the developer's own backend:
- The two random identifiers
- The platform — iOS or Android
- The app version and build number
- The OS version and the device model
- The interface language and the device locale
- The time zone
- The country code — taken from the device locale
That is the whole list: no other information about you or your device is sent.
The country code is read from a device setting, not from where you are. The app collects no location of any kind — no continuous tracking, and no precise position either.
Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics
Two Google services are built into the app.
Firebase Analytics
Records in-app usage events: which screens are opened, which items are tapped. It also stores two user properties — the interface language and the theme you have chosen.
Firebase Crashlytics
Sends a report when the app crashes: the stack trace and the state of the device at that moment.
Google processes the data from these two services.
What stays on your device
None of this is sent anywhere — not to us, not to anyone else:
- The books you download
- Where you stopped reading
- Every setting — theme, language and reduce motion
Permissions the app does not have
These are not merely unused. They are absent from the build itself, so the app cannot even ask for them:
No advertising, no tracking
There is no advertising in the app: no ad networks, no advertising identifier, no cross-app tracking. That is also why iOS never shows the App Tracking Transparency prompt. No data is sold, and none is shared with anyone other than the processors named below.
Who processes the data
- Google — Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics.
- The developer's own backend — the start-up details listed above.
There is no other third party.
How to ask for your data to be deleted
There is no account, so there is no delete-account button — but there is an exact way to find the rows that belong to you. The app shows its own device identifier in its settings. Send it to us and we will find the rows carrying that identifier and delete them.
- 1Open the app: Settings → the device section.
- 2Copy the identifier shown there.
- 3Send it through one of the channels below and say you want it deleted.
Clearing the app's data takes care of the device side: the reading position and settings held there are wiped, and the next launch generates new identifiers.
Children
The app has no user-generated content, no messaging and no social features. It asks for no name, no email address and no age, so it collects no personal data from children either.

If what the app collects changes, this page is updated and the date above changes with it.
